Biodynamics wines of Abruzzo

MICACE Organic by choice,
dynamic by nature

Welcome to MICACE Wines: an idea, a dream, a territory. In this website you will find the beginning and development of an intuition born at the university and materialized in the vineyard. A wine production proposal that fully embraces biodynamic agriculture in the territories of the Italian region of Abruzzo. We are Enrico, Paolo and Antonio and our adventure as winemakers begins here.

OUR CONNECTION WITH THE TERRITORY

“Abruzzo” is how you
read it, “passion” is how you spell it.

“To do” is the most appropriate verb to describe our Territory. We wish to do and give everything we can for Abruzzo, the land that has seen us grow up and that allows us to express our ideas every day. Here we put ourselves in the game to push and enhance the image of local nature, in order to take it where it deserves: to every corner of the World. Indeed, this Region has nothing to envy to the rest of the globe, despite its food and wine tradition still needs to be discovered. What do we need to do so? All we need is awareness, combined with a strategy that rhymes with passion and culture. That’s why one of our goals is to promote it with conviction through our proposal of wines, which highlights the land, its history and tradition. A Territory that has made viticulture a mainstone: centuries of production that we want to carry on with pride, foresight and passion.

PROPOSAL AND PHILOSOPHY

MICACE's proposal aims to skillfully combine modernity with tradition. A risky choice, we know it, we are sure it will give its own universes.

LOVE

The basis of our proposal. Nothing is achievable without feeling, passion and willingness to get involved. We love wine, we love Abruzzo and we love the marriage of these two fantastic universes.

RESPECT FOR ENVIRONMENT AND NATURE

Everything starts from here. From the earth, from its dust, but above all from the roots. The same ones that tie us to Abruzzo.

A STRONG BELIEF

We are united by the desire to do a good job. We owe it to our Land, to those who believe in the power of wine, but also to ourselves.

THREE WINEMAKERS AND AN IDEA

Inhabiting a place,
physical or imaginary, means cultivating it

The only labels we love are the ones on our bottles, but if you really want to know more about us here is some additional information.

Antonio

Enologo / CEO

He lives his dream of wine in his family business, which is located between the hills and the mountains, at 450 meters above the sea level, where olive groves and vineyards grow luxuriant. To him, MICACE is the way to enhance Abruzzo’s territory and its products with awareness and honesty: a sounding board to the World, through a challenge to be lived together.

Enrico

Enologo / CFO

He trained and practiced the professional wine environment in the family winery, located at sea level, with some vineyards even overhanging. His wish is researching and expressing the potential of the land, without any preclusion: an excellent white wine can be born at the foot of a mountain, as well as a sophisticated red wine can be born a few kilometers away from the sea. And the other way around.

Paolo

Enologo / CTO

He took his first entrepreneurial steps in his family business, set in the hills at 150 meters above the sea. There he trained and began to dream. He believes in MICACE and a bond capable of offering products that reflect both the mountains and the sea. A distance that can be covered in just 45 minutes, for a wine destined to travel the taste routes of the entire World.

THE WINES

Flavors and scents of
a land of contamination

We are proud of our productions. Five bottles, each one dedicated to a grape variety rigorously approached according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture.

,

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a typical grape variety of our region, a land that gives life to rich, structured and intense wines. The characteristics of Montepulciano wine are unmistakable: its ruby red colour has violet reflections, with a scent of berries and spices. Its taste expresses all its deep, beautiful structure and good persistence. A frank, genuine, strong and gentle wine just like our people. It has always perfectly matched with "important" dishes, such as the ones coming from our Abruzzo's culinary tradition.   Matchings: perfect for important lunches and dinners, this is a wine that warms your soul, certainly suitable for cold winter days, to be enjoyed beside the fireplace. What could be better than a good roast and a nice glass of our Montepulciano? In Abruzzo we match it with our typical dishes like “pallotte cacio e uova”, “chitarra alla teramana”, “porchetta”, “arrosticini”, “sagne e fagioli” and “ventricina”. Serving temperature: 16-18 degrees   Organic and Biodynamic Wine. D.O.P. Protected Designation of Origin.

Primitivo MICACE Bottle

,

Although it is not indigenous to Abruzzo, this is a grape variety which immediately impressed us with the way it expressed itself, both in the field and during our winemaking trials. We love this wine because it succeeds in being a valid alternative to Montepulciano, as its characteristics - such as sweetness and acidity - merge into a lovable and elegant wine. To the eye, Primitivo has a ruby red color with purplish highlights. The organoleptic characteristics of this wine are a well-defined red fruit scent with a stronger or lighter note of spices depending on its aging. On the taste, however, it is soft and almost sweet, all prerogatives making it very recognizable among many reds.   Matchings: rich dishes of our region for its ability to soften strong flavors. Our region is rich in cured meats and cheese perfectly matching this wine, which is ideal for a nice autumn aperitif, an evening with friends or a dinner with the one closest to you. Try the pairing with roasted chestnuts! Serving temperature: 18-20 degrees Organic and Biodynamic Wine. Terre di Chieti. Protected Geographical Indication PGI.

Pecorino MICACE Bottle

,

Pecorino is a white grape variety native to the region Marche, that over time has spread to southern Italy. In Abruzzo, Pecorino has found excellent environmental conditions, essential for making quality wines. According to the legend, its name comes from the pastoral tradition: it was the wine of shepherds. Other bizarre theories, however, speculate that its bunches shape resembles a sheep's head, or imagine sheep particularly fond of these sweet grapes. Its fruity notes are sumptuous and warm, with hints of yellow flowers. Some mineral, iodine and herbal notes such as thyme and marjoram can not be missed. After various researches, studies and attempts in vineyards as in the cellar, we managed to obtain a Pecorino wine characterized by a strong acidity and a wide structure, marked also by the fact these grapes in vineyards undergo a high temperature range.   Matchings: blue cheese, dried fruits, legumes and especially fish. There is nothing better than popping it for an aperitif overlooking the sea in our beautiful Abruzzo region. Not having it while you chill under a beach umbrella is impossible. Matched with peach and mint it is a guarantee, try it to believe. Pair it with summer fruit… it's sangria party time! Serving temperature: 8-10 degrees Vino Biologico e Biodinamico. Terre di Chieti. Indicazione geografica protetta I.G.P.

Pinot Grigio MICACE Bottle

,

The origin of the name "Pinot" comes from the French word "pin" "pino," in Italian. The shape of its cluster reminds a small pine tree, a characteristic common to all "Pinot" wines. Although it is often vinified in white, we preferred a short maceration of the skins that give this wine its typical coppery color, also called “onion skin”. In addition to the coloring, this oenological choice of ours promotes a greater aromatic complexity improving the structure of this wine, while still maintaining a distinct flavor and good acidity, capable of balancing an alcoholic content that is difficult to find in white wines.   Matchings: because of its high alcohol content, we recommend it with seafood dishes, shellfish or cod, but also with woodland scents and thus small game, mushrooms, cheese and white meats. Enjoy it cold between spring and summer as a cool-down after a long day of hiking in the mountains, or at room temperature during the early autumn chill. Serving temperature: 8-12 degrees Organic and Biodynamic Wine. Protected Designation of Origin PGI.

,

In all our production this is certainly the most versatile wine, deriving from the piedmont and hillside vineyards of Montepulciano, where the temperature changes, the exposure and the right harvest time make this wine express a good acidity and, at the same time, a structure worthy of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Every year our greatest effort is to select the most suitable grapes for the production of Cerasuolo, distinguishing them from those that will later be chosen for red vinification. In 2010 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo was the first rosé wine to be recognized as a DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin). To the eye, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo presents very intense and bright cherry pink shades. On the palate, however, its fruity and spicy notes are appreciable with a structure approaching the one of a red. The nose shows delicate notes of raspberry, pomegranate, cherry, geranium and carnation, with a delicately spicy undertone.   Matchings: grilled white meats, medium-aged cheese, shellfish, and - why not - even vegetables. A companion to a thousand events, it can be with us throughout the year, from the warm days spent in the summer sun to the rosy sunsets of autumn. Serving temperature: 8-10 degrees Organic and Biodynamic Wine. D.O.P. Protected Designation of Origin.
